The purpose of the charity is to promote awareness and to provide funding for research into high grade Childhood Brain Tumors. The fund raised is to establish The Lucus Williams Brain Tumour Research Fund to support research and understanding of how brain cancers develop and grow in children. The charity works with the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. It will also have wider benefits for low grade childhood brain tumours and other types of cancer.
The charity was established by Andrew and Joanne Williams, Stoke on Trent whose son Lucas sadly died on 7 August 2015 aged 6. He had never been ill or had a day off school until 21 May 2015 when he was suddenly taken ill. He died 11 weeks later at home as a result of a brain tumour.
So far the charity has raised £76,000 in Lucas’s name and over £18,000 for other local children’s charities and organisations.
